title

Award of Contract to CDWG for Nutanix Upgrade in the amount of $150,300

end

BACKGROUND:

In September of 2018, the IT Department migrated off an aging server infrastructure to a modern Nutanix platform with VMware. At that time the Nutanix platform was selected for its modern-day architecture and its ability to scale with the organization. The City currently has 11 Nutanix server nodes which form the backbone of all storage and compute capabilities. Four of the current production server nodes have reached end of life and require upgrades.

CONCLUSION:

At this time four of the eleven Nutanix server nodes have reached end of life and require replacement. Due to advances in technology the current four nodes can be replaced by two server nodes that will provide more storage and compute than the older four nodes combined.

In accordance with section 2-438 of the City of Joliet Code of Ordinances which states that purchases over $25,000.00 may be awarded without written specifications or bidding under certain circumstances. Two of these circumstances apply:

1. (b) Purchases for additions to and repairs and maintenance of equipment owned by the city which may be more efficiently added to, repaired or maintained by a certain person;

2. (f) Purchases when authorized by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of all members of the city council holding office.

The Sourcewell 3037653 State of IL purchasing agreement was used to ensure the City received fair pricing for this purchase.

Sufficient funds exist utilizing the IT Repairs and Maintenance Budget (Org 04013000, Object 524300,$150,300.00).
