Change Order No. 2 for the Sidewalk Vault Improvements - 102 N. Chicago Street, 175 N. Chicago Street, 2 Clinton Street to Lindblad Construction in the amount of $200,160.50
end
BACKGROUND:
In advance of the proposed 2024 Streetscape Improvements on Chicago Street, stabilization work will be completed on existing sidewalk vaults to ensure safe pedestrian access to businesses during mainline construction activities. The initial vault locations at 102 N. Chicago, 175 N. Chicago, and 2 Clinton Streets were awarded to Lindblad Construction on January 2, 2024, in the amount of $1,855,941.00. Subsequently, Change Order No. 1, in the amount of $297,613.40 has been approved. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
Several issues that need to be addressed were identified during the sidewalk vault stabilization work currently underway. After removal of a portion of the existing vault ceiling and review of the sub structure that was previously inaccessible at 102 N. Chicago Street, a redesign of the new vault ceiling including additional columns and beam installation was required to protect the integrity of the exterior building wall. The new design increases the size of the vault access hatches and makes it possible to add a concrete wear surface to simplify future maintenance without interacting with the structural ceiling of the vault.
Change Order No. 2 is an addition in the amount of $200,160.50 for the following items;
1) Addition of structural steel beam and columns at 102 N. Chicago vault.
2) Increased access hatch sizes
3) Addition of a concrete wear surface over the vault ceiling to improve long term maintenance.
Sufficient funds exist utilizing the Capital Funds (Org 30090270, Object: 557200, $200,160.50).
