Ordinance Adopting an Elected and Appointed Officials and Employees Travel Expense Policy

end

BACKGROUND:

The City of Joliet’s travel policy sets forth the official policy and procedures for payment of official travel.  The current travel policy was last updated in 1999 and dollar amounts are outdated and not representative of current costs and practices.

Substantial changes to the policy are as follows:

•                     Sets the amount an Elected Official may incur in travel expenses before full Council approval is required at $2,500.00

•                     Department Heads can approve travel under $500.  All staff travel exceeding $500 must be approved by the City Manager.

•                     Meal reimbursements changed to a per diem and follow the Federal GSA amounts for the location in effect on date of travel.

We have also eliminated outdated provisions that are no longer applicable, such as reference to the use of travel agents.

This item will be discussed on the May 21, 2024 Finance Committee.

RECOMMENDATION:
