title
Resolution Declaring Certain City of Joliet Property as Surplus
end
BACKGROUND:
The City of Joliet’s Purchasing Ordinance #7345, Section 2-435, provides in part that; “…when the City Council has determined that any personal property with a remaining value is no longer necessary or useful to the City of Joliet, the property shall be declared “surplus property” by Resolution and may be disposed of”. This item was reviewed at the Public Safety Committee Meeting held on May 7, 2024, and recommended to the full Council for approval.
CONCLUSION:
The Fire Department has a surplus of used radios (229) that are not being utilized due to obsolescence as the radios are no longer supported by Motorola.
The Fire Chief recommends that the radios be sold to a broker or donated. Chicago Communications, LLC has agreed to purchase the current inventory of dual band APX Mobile radios and dual band portable radios for $51,725.00. The remaining radios will either be sold as scrap or donated to neighboring Fire Departments.
Lastly, there is a Fire Safety House that was previously purchased for community events. However, it has become non-feasible for the Fire Department to utilize this house due to staffing shortages. The Fire Department recommends the Fire Safety House be sold through GovDeals, an online auction platform.
RECOMMENDATION:
