Resolution Authorizing the Acceptance of a Grant from the Morton Arboretum for a Citywide Tree Inventory and Management Plan, Tree Pruning, and Tree Planting in the Amount of $216,519.00
end
BACKGROUND:
In an effort to be more proactive in the management of City trees, the Forestry Division is seeking to complete a Citywide Tree Inventory and an updated Urban Forest Management Plan.
This project qualifies for a grant from the Morton Arboretum to assist in accomplishing these goals. A grant application for a portion of a tree inventory, tree pruning, and tree planting was submitted. A notice has been received that these proposed projects qualify for $216,519.00 in grant funding ($104,500.00 for a tree inventory & management plan, $67,000.00 for tree pruning, and $45,019.00 for tree planting). The grant was obtained at no additional cost to the City of Joliet.
The estimated cost of the proposed tree inventory and management plan is $270,000.00, of which $104,500.00 will be covered with grant funding. Funding for a tree inventory was intended to be included as part of the 2024 Capital Improvement budget but was inadvertently omitted. As a result, a budget amendment of approximately $165,500.00 will be required when a contract is awarded to complete this work. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
