Ordinance Adopting Public Works Standards for Construction

end

BACKGROUND:

Department of Public Works staff is seeking to provide contractors, developers, and engineering consultants with construction standards that are required for use on various City led, private development, and dry utility (ComEd, NICOR, AT&T, etc.) projects.  Additionally, numerous outside agencies and engineering consultants have requested construction standards for projects located within the City rights-of-way.

The proposed standards are for use of items typically located within the roadway right-of-way.  However, the Department of Public Utilities, Inspections Division, and various other departments in the City have been consulted regarding these standards.  The proposed standards will update items identified at various locations within City codes.

Additionally, with the expanded use of ProjectDox, the City’s online permitting software, a submittal standard was created to communicate to various entities what items are required for permit review.  The Public Service and Land Use & Economic Development Committees will review this matter.

CONCLUSION:

The attached ordinance establishes construction standards for the Department of Public to assist staff in reviewing plans, providing direction to engineering consultants, and discussing improvements with private utility companies.

RECOMMENDATION:
