SUBJECT:
title
Ordinance Adopting Abandoned and Retired Utilities Policy
end
BACKGROUND:
Dry utilities such as ComEd, NICOR, AT&T, etc. historically have abandoned pipes within City Rights-of-Way (ROW) as they constructed new facilities. Due to ROW constraints encountered and the limited availability of space for the placement of City utilities, the City has incurred time and cost delays due to utility conflicts. The Public Service and Land Use & Legislative Committees will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The attached ordinance establishes an Abandoned and Retired Utility Policy for the City. This policy will assist staff in designing and reviewing utility plans for proposed improvement projects.
RECOMMENDATION:
recommendation
Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve and adopt the proposed Abandoned and Retired Utilities Policy for the City of Joliet.
