BACKGROUND:
The Illinois Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin roadway resurfacing, ADA improvements, and traffic signal modifications on US Rt 6 (Jefferson & Collins Streets) from Art Schultz Drive to E. Cass Street in the summer of 2024.

The City is responsible for the maintenance of those portions of the improvement which are not maintained by the State including the public sidewalk, cross walk pavement marking, and stop bars.

The State of Illinois has prepared an Intergovernmental Agreement for the project. The City of Joliet will be responsible to fund the costs of design and construction of traffic signal modifications, including the installation of pedestrian signals and pushbuttons, at Richards Street and Washington Street, which is an intersection with a traffic signal interconnected to the Jefferson Street and Richards Street traffic signal. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.

CONCLUSION:
Attached is a Resolution approving an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the US Route 6 improvement project. Based on the cost participation breakdown for the project, the City's share totals an estimated amount of $57,500.00.

Funds for the City's share of the project will be charged to Motor Fuel Tax Fund / Infrastructure (Org 20090270, Object 557200, $57,500.00).
