Approve Purchase of a Replacement Pump for the West Park Lift Station from Metropolitan Industries in the amount of $57,470.00
end
BACKGROUND:
The West Park Lift Station utilizes four (4) 100 hp submersible pumps to pump wastewater from the sewer basin tributary to the station. One of the pumps failed and had to be taken out of service. The pumps have been in service for 9 years. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The pump was removed by City staff and taken to Metropolitan Industries, the local repair facility, for evaluation. Metropolitan Industries concluded that due to the age of the pump and the extent of the damage it would be most cost effective to replace the pump. The cost of the new pump is $57,470.00 and will carry a one-year warranty. The pump must be replaced to provide capacity and redundancy for the station.
Section 2-438 of the City of Joliet Code of Ordinances states that purchases over twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) may be awarded without written specifications under certain circumstances. Three (3) of these circumstances apply:
a) Purchases which may only be practicably made from a single source;
c) Purchases of equipment which, by reason of training of city personnel or an inventory of replacement parts maintained by the city, are compatible with the existing equipment owned by the city;
f) Purchases when authorized by a concurring vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Mayor and City Council;
Sufficient funds exist utilizing the Water & Sewer Improvement Fund (Org 501800031, Object 557500, $57,470.00, Project 24022).
RECOMMENDATION:
recommendation
Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the purchase of a replacement pump for the West Park Lift Station, in the amount of $57,470.00, on behalf of Metropolitan Industries.
