Resolution Authorizing a Grant Program Agreement Between the State of Illinois (“State”) and the City of Joliet (“Joliet”) to Provide Transportation and Counseling Services for Seniors

BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this grant is to assist the City in providing transportation to and from community resources to persons over sixty (60) years of age. The participant must reside in a non-long term care setting within a preestablished geographic service area. The transportation may include transporting older persons to and from community facilities, and resources for acquiring/receiving services, participating in activities, and to attend events to reduce isolation and promote successful independent living.
The grant is in the amount of $79,093.00. The Public Safety Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The Joliet Police Department is requesting authorization to accept the grant and implement this program in Joliet.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and Council approve a resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to sign the Grant Agreement awarding the $79,093.00.
