SUBJECT:
title
Amendment to the Compensation Scale for Crossing Guards
end
BACKGROUND:
The Traffic Division of the Joliet Police Department runs the Crossing Guard Program and is asking to resolve issues with the recruiting and retaining of Crossing Guards. We have 26 crossing guards, 2 open positions and is responsible for 44 crossings. We have had a shortage of applicants, with the pay being a reason given for declining the position.
CONCLUSION:
The pay rate per crossing guard has not been raised since 2015, and it is being recommended that a 15% raise be applied to the different tiers in the program.
RECOMMENDATION:
recommendation
Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve this pay increase so we can adequately staff the program and provide the schools with safe student street crossings.
