Purchase of a Leica Robotic Total Station from Kara Company Inc. in the Amount of $41,769.08
end
BACKGROUND:
The 2025 budget includes funding for a new total station device for use during completion of topographical and other surveys. Department of Public Works staff utilizes Kara Company, Inc. for various surveying and construction equipment needs. At the end of 2024 the current total station equipment failed and was not repairable. Kara has a trade in program available for the purchase of new equipment. The program will allow the City to purchase new upgraded equipment and maintain access to the Kara survey network, allowing for more pinpointed surveys.
The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
A quote was requested from Kara Company Inc. for the Leica Robotic Total Station and appurtenances. Kara is currently under contract with the City for maintenance of Department of Public Works survey equipment and for the use of the Kara network for surveying accuracy.
Section 2-438 of the City of Joliet Code of Ordinances states that purchases over $25,000.00 may be awarded without written specifications or bidding under certain circumstances. Two (2) of these circumstances apply:
(a) Purchases which may only be practicably made from a single source;
(f) Purchases when authorized by a concurring vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Mayor and City Council.
Sufficient funds exist utilizing the Capital Improvement Fund / Engineering & Construction (Org 300902070, Object 557200, $41,769.08).
RECOMMENDATION:
