Resolution Authorizing Approval and Execution of an Illinois Cash Farm Lease with Edwin and Leona Meyer, L.P. for Property at County Line and Black Roads

BACKGROUND:
In June 2024, the Mayor and City Council approved the purchase of approximately 21 acres of farmland real estate located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Black Road and County Line Road in unincorporated Will County for the purpose of constructing a pumping station and water storage facilities in order to deliver Lake Michigan water to the City's residents and water customers in this area of the City. Subsequently, the City has completed acquisition of the Property. Acquisition of land at this site was completed in coordination with the Grand Prairie Water Commission (GPWC) and the Village of Shorewood who acquired adjacent land for their water facilities. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
Since the property will not be immediately required by the City for activities pertaining to the construction of water facilities, it has been determined that continuation of farming at the property will be the best means for care and maintenance of the site. The City, in coordination with the GPWC and Shorewood, has negotiated reasonable terms for an Illinois Cash Farm Lease with Edwin and Leona Meyer, L.P. The City will receive an annual rent amount of $4,725.00 for leasing its property. The GPWC and Shorewood will each be executing separate leases for their land with Edwin and Leona Meyer, L.P. on similar terms and conditions.
