BACKGROUND:
Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWFJ) has been recommended for Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $29,772.00 to support their Outreach Program. This activity will be used to leverage an additional $90,000.00 of the organization's supplemental funding to provide resources, training, outreach and education to the one of the City’s largest industry workforces.
This program is designed to support an outreach team dedicated to: educating the workforce of Joliet on their rights and understanding minimum wage laws, labor / overtime laws, biometric policy rights, and more, based on Federal and Local protections. With 17 years as an established center, this will be WWFJ’s first year of administering city-funded CDBG activities.
The WWFJ program supports CDBG identified Goals, and demonstrates consistency to the City of Joliet 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan.
The attached Resolution authorizes CDBG funding and authorizes the City Manager to execute the CDBG Agreement on behalf of the City of Joliet.
The Diversity and Community Relations Committee will review this item.
