Ordinance Approving a Street Name Change for Riverboat Center Boulevard to Rock Creek Boulevard (Adjacent to 1411 and 1421 Riverboat Center Drive) (SN-1-24)

BACKGROUND:
The City is requesting to change the street name of Riverboat Center Boulevard to Rock Creek Boulevard to eliminate confusing street signage at the intersection of these streets with Houbolt Road. Riverboat Center Boulevard is one block long and located on the east side of Houbolt Road, terminating at Riverboat Center Drive on the east. Rock Creek Boulevard, a longer street with many established properties along its frontage, aligns with it on the west side of Houbolt Road. Both streets have street signs at this intersection to direct northbound and southbound traffic along Houbolt Road. Currently, vehicles approaching the intersection see both the small sign for Riverboat Center Boulevard on a pole at the southeast corner, and the larger Rock Creek Boulevard signs located on the mast arms for the traffic signals. The street name change will allow the City to eliminate the “Riverboat Center Boulevard” sign so that only one street name is visible.
There are no properties with addresses on Riverboat Center Boulevard; the two adjacent commercial properties have addresses on Riverboat Center Drive.
PLAN COMMISSION:
The Plan Commission reviewed this matter on August 15, 2024. No one appeared or submitted comments in opposition to the petition. Meeting minutes are attached.
RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLAN COMMISSION:
Jeff Crompton moved that the Plan Commission recommend approval of the Street Name Change for Riverboat Center Boulevard to Rock Creek Boulevard (adjacent to 1411 and 1421 Riverboat Center Drive). Brigette Roehr seconded the motion, which passed with seven (7) aye votes and no nay votes. Voting aye were: Kella, Cox, Crompton, Roehr, Orlando, Dillon, and Radakovich. Absent were: Perez and Rousonelos.

The Administration concurs with the recommendation of the Plan Commission and recommends the Mayor and City Council adopt an Ordinance approving a street name change for Riverboat Center Boulevard to Rock Creek Boulevard (adjacent to 1411 and 1421 Riverboat Center Drive).
