SUBJECT:

title

Approval of Upgrade/Exchange of Rifles for the Joliet Police Department’s Special Operations Squad

end

BACKGROUND:

The Joliet Police Department’s Special Operations Squad (SOS) has added two additional snipers to the team.  The two new snipers are currently using outdated rifles and accessories that are approximately twenty (20) years old. This exchange would allow for consistent equipment for all SOS team members.  The outdated rifles cannot be transferred to any Federal Firearms License dealer, as they are full-auto and restricted. The dealer must have a special license to exchange and upgrade the Rifles with the necessary accessories.

CONCLUSION:

The upgrade of the rifles would allow for consistent equipment for all SOS team members.

Exhibit A is attached and details what the upgrade/exchange of equipment will include.

RECOMMENDATION:

recommendation

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council authorize the upgrade/exchange of SOS rifles to The Gun Shop of Joliet.
