Resolution Authorizing Execution of a Letter of Understanding (LU-126-024) for FAI 80-Interstate 80 (I-80) Between the State of Illinois and the City of Joliet (Gardner St to Gougar Rd) (Contract 62X37)

BACKGROUND:
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is currently completing a reconstruction project on I-80 through Joliet. Part of the proposed work includes new landscaping along I-80 from Gardner Street to Gougar Road. All landscaping work will be paid for and completed by IDOT. IDOT has presented the City with a Letter of Understanding (LOU) for the maintenance of landscaping adjacent to the I-80 Richards Street ramps as shown in the attached Exhibit A.
In keeping with past and similar agreements, the City will maintain landscaping along the Rihards Street approaches to the I-80 interchange (but not on the interstate itself).
The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The Illinois Department of Transportation requires that a Letter of Understanding between the City and IDOT be signed by both parties. Attached, please find a LOU with the Illinois Department of Transportation for FAI 80-Interstate (I-80) between Gardner Street and Gougar Road.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council adopt the attached Resolution Approving the Letter of Understanding (LU-126-024) for FAI 80-Interstate 80 (I-80) between the State of Illinois and City of Joliet (Gardner Street to Gougar Road, Contract 62x37).
