Resolution Requesting the Closure of State Route 171 for the 2026 Mexican Independence Day Parade

BACKGROUND:
The Joliet Mexican Independence Day parade will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. This parade will require the temporary closure of a portion of State Route 171 (Collins Street).
The Illinois Highway Code authorizes the Illinois Department of Transportation to issue permits to local authorities to temporarily close portions of State Highways for public purposes such as parades and local celebrations.
The Public Service Committee will review this matter.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the Resolution Requesting the Closure of State Route 171 for the 2026 Mexican Independence Day Parade.
