Resolution Requesting the Closure of Routes 6 and 30 for the 2026 Black Joy Parade Route

BACKGROUND:

The Joliet City Center Partnership is hosting the 2026 Black Joy Parade on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in downtown Joliet. The event will include a parade that requires the closure or partial closure of Routes 6 and 30. 

 

The Illinois Highway Code authorizes the Illinois Department of Transportation to issue permits to local authorities to temporarily close portions of State Highways for public purposes such as parades and local celebrations.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the Resolution Requesting the Closure of Routes 6 and 30 for the 2026 Black Joy Parade Route
