BACKGROUND:
The City of Joliet Fire Department applied for the Fiscal Year 2026 Small Equipment Grant, a competitive grant offered by the State of Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal to assist fire departments with purchasing equipment that will improve the safety of their firefighters. With 223 firefighters and over 23,000 annual emergency responses, the Joliet Fire Department needs upgraded equipment to ensure the safety of their first responders.
Grant funds will be provided in the amount of $26,000 which will be used to purchase new turnout gear to replace worn items in the Joliet Fire Department inventory. This grant requires no match.

It is recommended that the Resolution Accepting $26,000.00 in Grant Funds from FY2026 Small Equipment Grant from the State of Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal for the Purchase of Turnout Gear and Grant Agreement attachment be forwarded to City Council for approval.
