Joliet Police Department- Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst (1 Position)

 

The Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst will work directly with Detectives, Officers, other law enforcement partners, and the State’s Attorney’s Office.  This position will report to the Deputy Chief of Investigations at the Joliet Police Department.

The Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst will perform electronic evidence and data processing to assist detectives with the investigation, analysis, and processing of digital or electronic evidence. 

 

The Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst will need to track crime patterns, and trend correlations to plan with Administration for prevention and suppression of criminal activities. 

 

The Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst will be responsible for reporting and testifying in court on physical and digital evidence.

 

This item was reviewed at the Public Safety Committee Meeting held on August 5, 2025 and recommended to the full City Council for approval.

 

FUNDING:

In the 2025 Budget there are currently 24 Patrol Officer vacant positions.  This new position will be funded by using 2 of the open positions.

 

Because existing funds are already available, a budget amendment is not necessary.

It is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of the Digital Forensic-Crime Analyst position and authorize the Chief of Police to fill the newly created vacancy.
