Resolution Authorizing a Memorandum of Understanding Between the County of Will and the City of Joliet Related to Parking Lot Use for the IHSA Baseball Finals

BACKGROUND:

The City of Joliet is the host of the IHSA Baseball State Finals Tournament at Slammer’s Stadium over the course of two days in 2025 and 2026. In 2025, the two days will be Friday June 13^th and Saturday June 14^th.  To accommodate the expected influx of visitors, the City requires additional parking facilities. The County of Will owns parking lots at the Will County Courthouse and the Will County Office Building, which can be utilized for this purpose.

The Public Service Committee will review this matter.

CONCLUSION:

The attached Memorandum of Understanding allows the City of Joliet to use the County's parking lots without compensation during the specified dates. There are approximately 436 parking spots between these two lots, and the City anticipates needing no more than 50% of the parking spots. No fees will be charged to individuals using the parking lots.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the City Council approve the resolution authorizing the Memorandum of Understanding between the County of Will and the City of Joliet for the use of parking facilities during the IHSA Baseball State Finals in 2025 and 2026.
