Resolution Approving a Memorandum of Understanding with the County of Will for an Easement for Fiberoptic Conduit Installation

end

BACKGROUND:

The City has requested a public utility easement from Will County for the installation and maintenance of multi-duct fiberoptic conduit located north of the right-of-way of Washington Street between Chicago Street and Scott Street.  The County has agreed to provide this easement.

This conduit will tie into the existing IT fiber cabinet located at the County parking lot just west of Union Station.  This conduit will complete a connection between the Gateway Transportation Center and City Hall and allow direct communication and camera feeds between facilities.  The easement allows most of the conduit run to be placed outside of the State right-of-way and avoids conflicts with other existing utilities.

The attached Memorandum of Understanding establishes responsibilities of the City and the County of Will regarding the acceptance of the easement for the installation of the fiber conduit.

The Public Service Committee will review the matter.

CONCLUSION:

The attached Memorandum of Understanding allows the County to grant the public utility easement.  It is in the best interest of the City to approve the Memorandum of Understanding.

RECOMMENDATION:

recommendation

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the Memorandum of Understanding for the County of Will to grant an easement for fiberoptic conduit installation.
