BACKGROUND:
The City of Joliet is a member of the Grand Prairie Water Commission, which is preparing to provide Lake Michigan water to the City via water delivery structures at points of delivery identified by the City pursuant to the Grand Prairie Water Commission Water Supply Agreement dated July 2, 2024. The City has identified the location for its tertiary point of delivery of water from the Commission on land owned by the Joliet Park District.
City staff has coordinated with Park District staff and the designers of the water delivery structures regarding the design and placement of the City’s tertiary point of delivery and adjustments to the location of walking paths on the Park District property, and the District has agreed to grant certain easements to the City and the Commission for a delivery structure and related water mains and appurtenances at this location.
In addition, a portion of the area commonly believed to be part of the right-of-way of 129th Infantry Drive has not been dedicated as part of the public right-of-way and the Park District has agreed to approve a Plat of Dedication of such area for public right-of-way purposes, and certain new water mains of the Commission will be installed within the 129th Infantry Drive right-of-way in the area of the City north of Ingalls Avenue near Paul E. Briese Park.
