BACKGROUND:
The Fourth Annual Stone & Steel Spooky 5K is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 8 a.m. This chip-timed race starts in historic Downtown Joliet and runs through the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site.
The 5k will start at 302 N. Chicago Street and proceed north on Scott Street to Columbia entering into the forest preserve. Runners and walkers will turn around in the forest preserve and head south on Scott Street back to 302 N. Chicago (just south of Jackson). Joliet Police Department will shut down the right lane of Scott Street only for this event.
The Illinois Highway Code authorizes the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to issue permits to local authorities to temporarily close portions of State Highways for public purposes such as parades and local celebrations. The attached Resolution will be forwarded to IDOT to serve as the formal request to close off portions of Route 53 in the downtown Joliet area as shown on the attached map on October 4, 2025 from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
