Resolution Authorizing a FOID Enforcement Grant Program Agreement Between the State of Illinois (“State”) and the City of Joliet (“Joliet”)

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of the Firearm Owner’s Identification (“FOID”) card enforcement grant is to conduct enforcement operations against persons whose FOID cards are revoke or suspended and to collaborate with members of the Violent Crime Intelligence Task Force to enforce provisions of the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, the Firearm Dealer License Certification Act, and Article 24 of the Criminal Code of 2012. The State has offered a grant to Joliet in the amount of $25,217.00 to facilitate this program. The program will focus on individuals that are a present and clear danger to themselves or others.

 

This item was reviewed at the Public Safety Committee Meeting held on July 7, 2026 and recommended to the full Council for approval. 

 

CONCLUSION:

The Joliet Police Department is requesting authorization to accept the grant and continue this program in Joliet.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve a resolution to accept the grant for the FOID Enforcement Grant Program in the amount of $25,217.00.
