Resolution Authorizing the Execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Between the Joliet Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF)

BACKGROUND:
The City of Joliet Police Department partners with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to mitigate violent crime in the community. The mission of AFT is to protect communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, illegal use of storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products.
The Public Safety Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The Joliet Police Department seeks to extend this partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes the procedures and responsibilities for both the Joliet Police Department and ATF.

Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and the City Council approve the MOU between the Joliet Police Department and the ATF.
