BACKGROUND:
The Tri-County Auto Theft Taskforce is 100% funded by a grant from the State of Illinois Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Council. Grant expenditures are approved by the Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Council and the Tri-County Auto Theft Taskforce Board. Since Tri-County is not a legal entity, the City of Joliet is the grantee and legal entity for the Taskforce. As such all property held by the taskforce is owned by the City of Joliet.
The Taskforce received a 2014 Ford Explorer from the Grundy County Sheriff in 2021 and now is returning the vehicle to the Grundy County Sheriff. This prompts the need to declare the vehicle as surplus so that it can be returned:

This item will be reviewed by the Public Safety Committee on July 6, 2026.
CONCLUSION:
Approval of this item will allow the vehicle to be returned to the Grundy County Sheriff.
