Purchase of Two (2) New Vehicles for JPD Tactical Unit Not to Exceed $110,000.00
end
BACKGROUND:
The tactical unit is currently utilizing vehicles that need to be cycled into service as other police units due to visibility concerns and time in their current role. There are sufficient funds in the Police Federal Asset Forfeiture account to update two (2) of these units. The units that are being replaced will be redeployed into another role.
This item was reviewed at the Public Safety Committee Meeting held on January 7, 2025, and recommended to the full Council for approval.
CONCLUSION:
The desired new vehicles would be purchased locally from dealer stock or ordered following normal purchasing procedures. Two (2) non-descript pick-up trucks can be obtained and upfit internally through normal Fleet processes. The purchase price of the two unit plus upfit is not expected to exceed $110,000.
Sufficient funds are available for this purchase request in the Federal Asset Forfeiture Fund: Org Code 22160020; Object Code 536102.
Section 2-438 of the City of Joliet Code of Ordinances states that purchases over $25,000.00 may be awarded without written specifications or bidding under certain circumstances. One of these circumstances apply:
(f) Purchases when authorized by a concurring vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Mayor and City Council
RECOMMENDATION:
recommendation
Based upon the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the purchase and upfit of two (2) vehicles for the tactical unit in an amount not to exceed $110,000.00.
