Resolution Adopting an Urban Forest Management Plan

BACKGROUND:
The Tree Advisory Board has drafted and approved a comprehensive tree preservation ordinance. This ordinance is designed to create a unified tree ordinance which will aid the City of Joliet in its ongoing efforts to preserve the urban forest. This ordinance was passed by the City Council earlier this year.
Passage of this Ordinance requires the adoption of an Urban Forest Management Plan. The purpose of the plan is to outline goals, budgets, and arboricultural best management practices for the management of the urban forest. It also seeks to increase canopy cover, maximize the benefits trees provide while minimizing cost, mitigate against climate change, and create a program to manage the urban forest resource for the greatest public good in a manner that is both financially and programmatically sustainable, while maintaining flexibility for future adaptive management.
