Award of Professional Services Contract for the Demolition and Stabilization of the Victory Center Gymnasium, 25 N Broadway, Joliet, IL 60432 to R. Berti & Sons Contractors Inc. in the amount of $1,195,590.00

BACKGROUND:
The gymnasium portion of the Victory Center \ "Old Joliet Catholic High School" located at 25 N Broadway requires strategic demolition and stabilization. All existing lead paint and asbestos present has recently been removed and abated. This is a very specialized demolition project and requires a highly skilled local construction management contractor to oversee the work from beginning to end. Three (3) local contractors were contacted to serve this function. Lindblad Construction, Joliet Il declined, Harbour Construction, Plainfield Il did not respond. R. Berti & Sons Contractors Inc. has submitted a not to exceed proposal which includes project management and performance bonds. R Berti & Sons Contractors Inc. will provide transparent bidding for all subs and manage daily operations of the project. Their proposal includes a 10% contingency. R Berti & Sons Contractors Inc. has worked successfully with the City of Joliet on many projects and is highly qualified to execute this type of project. The Public Service Committee will review this matter.
CONCLUSION:
The City of Joliet is seeking professional services for the strategic demolition and stabilization of the Victory Center Gymnasium located at 25 N Broadway Joliet, Il 60432. Staff is recommending that R Berti & Sons Contractors Inc. be retained to oversee this project. This will include developing final scope and specifications, coordinate subcontractor bidding process, site supervision, project management, general liability, and performance bonds. The 2024 Capital Budget provides $1,250,000.00 for this project (Org 30010150, Obj 557300).
